Apologies!
Hope you’re enjoying the adventures of ObCom Guy. Presuming the stories have gone live by now! In my own personal world, I can look at the topic with amusement and even a bit of pride. But make no mistake about it - obsessive compulsive/attention deficit disorder is a serious matter. Many good people cannot carry out normal day to day functions because of it. Some get trapped behind barriers of their own design and have great difficulty getting passed them. If at all. For these people, OCD is simply not a fun way to live. They may try to hide their tendencies in fear of ridicule. My level of obsessiveness is very real and just as pervasive, but more akin to an environmental allergy or a head cold, compared to those with severe afflictions. That’s why I can take advantage of mine and use it to conquer difficult or repetitive tasks for example.
I am, by no stretch of the imagination, an expert in this field. But I am acquainted with some of these biological and mental processes that can drive our bodies. Enough to poke fun at my own issues. For those who are bothered by my apparent callousness and lack of empathy, I can assure you I have no intentions of offending. I believe there’s a tiny bit of OCDness in all of us. (I only play a doctor on tv!). If there are those of you who identify with portions of my behavior, I hope you join us and make it count for Good!
If you’re serious about learning more about OCD/ADHD/LD and other neuropsychiatric diseases (not sure if that word is appropriate here), I encourage you to look up some of the resources below - by no means a complete discourse. There are childrens' schools that can make lifelong course corrections. In future episodes I will try to locate experts in this field and point you to their diagnoses and solutions.
Very truly yours,
ObComGuy
